Businesses are encouraged to challenge each other for bragging rights in the Corporate Challenge Ski Race. The first 30 participants to sign up for the Corporate Challenge receive a gift bag. For those who like unusual  but sure to be fun - events, there are a Shovel Race and a Dummy Jump. Whats a Dummy Jump? Dress up your dummy at home and send it down the mountain. Prizes are awarded for Best Dummy, Farthest Jump, and Surviving Dummy. In keeping with Sleeping Giants family-friendly philosophy, kids can enjoy face painting, and dog cookie decorating. Live music with outstanding band, Home Brewed,  will begin at 4 p.m. directly following the Awards Ceremony. Wine tasting is 4 -6 p.m.  The Corporate Challenge Race is $15 to enter and you must have a lift ticket.  Individual prize money awarded as well as a perpetual cup to business winner.11AM - Scavenger Hunt12-1PM - Lunch1PM - Corporate Challenge Ski Race2:30PM - Shovel Race3:30PM - Dummy Jump4PM - Awards and Live Music (Home Brewed...!!!)4-6PM - Wine Tasting***UNLESS WE GET A HUGE SNOW, SLEEPING GIANT WILL BE CLOSING FOR THE SEASON AFTER THIS SUNDAY.  EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SKI OR BOARD COME UP AND HAVE A BEER AND A BURGER ON THE DECK AND ENJOY THE LAST WEEKEND!!!! http://www.skisg.com/news.cfm?item=12 Hamilton Bryan 12 Tue, 23 Feb 2010 Sleeping Giant Ski Area  is holding their second major event of the ski season on March 6 & 7.   The Buffalo Jump as we are calling it, is a gelande style long jump competition for both skiers and boarders to compete in distance with $2,500 dollars in cash and prizes.  “This is the bull riding of snow sports”, says Hamilton Bryan, Executive Director.  “We do hope to attract participants and spectators from all over the region”, Bryan said. “ We want to make this a fun event for all ages and abilities from young amateurs to pros,” he added.  There will be categories for both skiers and snowboarders.  These categories will each have three separate divisions – 16 and under, Masters and Open Class.   The entry fee is $20 for the Open Classes and $10 for the Masters and 16 and under.  There is a $2,500.00 purse for the event with a first prize in the Open Skier division of $750.00 and $250 for the Open Snowboarders.   First prize for the 16 & under skiers class is $200.00.  Two other categories that will be offered with prizes but no money will be the Master’s division for 40 and over skiers/boarders and a Costume division – farthest distance with the best costume.   On Saturday, each division, except the Costume, will get multiple jumps. This will qualify the jumpers for the Sunday’s line-up.  On Sunday, the highest cumulative score of that day’s two best jumps wins.  The history of this event started in 1964 in Utah as a way to celebrate spring and local bragging rights.  It literally means terrain jump using existing snow for the ramp.  It also means using a fixed heel binding, not the kind of free bindings seen in the Olympics.  Jumpers have been known to go over 200 feet.  This will be a great spectator sports!TO ENTER, GO TO OUR WEBSITE IN THE EVENTS PAGE & FILL OUT OUR ENTRY FORM AND LIABILITY WAIVER. http://www.skisg.com/news.cfm?item=11 Hamilton Bryan 11 Wed, 10 Feb 2010 SLEEPING GIANT VIDEO FESTIVAL  - (submissions by April 12;  Awards/Screening at Big Horn Cinema April 30, 2010 For all you aspiring videographers out there, we are holding the first annual video contest and festival this winter.  Create an action packed video showcasing the mountain, the skiers, and the snowboarders of Sleeping Giant.  There are seven(7) different categories you can choose from and up to four (4) you can enter.  Entry fee is $5 per category. The entries must have a minimum run time of 3 minutes and maximum of 15 minutes.  The categories include:  Best Overall Video, Best Cinematography, Best Trick, Best Video Promoting Ski Area, Best Skier in Video, Best Snowboarder in Video, Best Use of Mountain.  Judges will choose winners and screening and award ceremony will be at Big Horn Cinemas, Cody Wyoming on April 30, 2010.  Thanks to our generous sponsors Powell Tribune, Northwest College, TCT, Open Range Images & Big Horn Cinemas http://www.skisg.com/news.cfm?item=10 Hamilton Bryan 10 Thu, 04 Feb 2010 For the first time this season our new triple chair, Sheepeater, will be open this Saturday and Sunday.  After many days/weeks of hard work from our snow-making crew, we will open several runs off the new lift. Not all runs will be open, however, new to our repertoire is the lower terrain park. That makes two terrain parks!!  Located just to the west of the magic carpet, this lower terrain park was created and used for last weekend's Giant Rails & Bails competition. We will keep the terrain park for the remainder of the season. This will be a great opportunity to get a head start and beat the crowds on getting your ski pass photo taken. Parents…it’s a great time to bring your “5th graders” up for their free pass and photo. Also, check out the newly upgraded cozy lodge and have lunch from our new menu. Take a guided, behind-the-scenes tour of our newly completed triple chair lift and Wonder Carpet! Our Ski School Director, Ski Patrol Director and other mountain personnel will be on hand to answer any questions. Sleeping Giant will not be open for skiing this weekend (Dec. 11 – 14th) due to a lack of snow.
